Morton Ranch student brings gun to school

Friday, November 10

A student at Morton Ranch High School was taken into custody after bringing a gun to school. All students were deemed safe and the student with the gun did not use it or threaten any one with it. According to Katy ISD's discipline policy which follows the Gun-Free Schools Act, bringing a firearm to school is punishable by a mandatory one year expulsion. The student's identity has not been released.

Fatal Accident at Barker Cypress and 529

Thursday, November 9

One man died in a fatal crash at 4:30 AM at the intersection on 529 and Barker Cypress. According to witnesses,the deceased man Sorin Oscenco was driving a Nissan Altima, and failed to stop at the red light. His vehicle hit Ryan Heacock's Dodge Ram who survived the crash.

Katy Elementary Receives Historic Marker at Ceremony

Friday, November 10

Katy ISD unveiled an historic marker at Katy Elementary School, the city’s first schoolhouse. City officials, politicians, and school administrators and educators were in attendance. Katy Elementary was built in 1965 and renovated in 1989 and in 1995. According to the district, the first school bell from 1909 still hangs in the main entrance of the campus.

LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch announces their 10th annual Tree Lighting Celebration to be held Saturday, November 18 from 4-6 p.m.

Outback Steakhouse Opens New Location in Katy

Monday, November 8

Outback opens new location at 24600 Katy Fwy. The restaurant is on the north side of I-10 between the Grand Parkway and Katy Fort Bend Road.

Katy ISD Bond Passes

Tuesday, November 7

Katy ISD Bond passes 70% in Fort Bend County, 61% in Harris County, and 63.51 in Waller County.

Anti-Sex Trafficking Symposium Announces Plans to Come to Katy

Monday, November 6

Katyite Kelly Litvak, Executive Director of Childproof America, is gathering interested parties and politicians for an Anti-Sex Trafficking All-Day Symposium to be held Tues. November 14 at Marriott Houston Energy Corridor Hotel.
