The 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s takes place Saturday, September 28 at LaCenterra in Katy. The community is invited to support this special event and learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, support programs, services, and how to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s today.
LaCenterra, located in Cinco Ranch at 501 Cinco Ranch Boulevard, hosts the 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s Saturday, September 28. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States, and the Alzheimer’s Association hopes the Walk raises awareness about this disease and raises funds to find the cure.
Event Schedule
7:30 am: Registration opens
8:00 am: Opening ceremony and National Anthem
8:30 am: Two-mile walk begins
Participating in the Walk
Parents and children must be registered and sign a standard waiver to participate in the Walk. Strollers and well-behaved dogs are welcome too, but dogs must be on a leash at all times.
For everyone’s safety, the organizers discourage skateboards, bicycles, inline skates and wheelie footwear.
There is no registration fee for Walk. However, every walker is asked to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Every registered participant will receive a t-shirt after achieving the fundraising minimum of $100. Unless otherwise communicated, t-shirts will be available for pick up on Walk day.
Growing the Promise Garden
The Alzheimer's Association describes the The Promise Garden as "A mission-focused experience which calls for participants to come together and make a commitment to fulfill their promise to remember, to honor, to care and to fight Alzheimer’s disease."
On Walk day, participants will receive a wristband. Each registered walker with a wristband will receive a Promise Garden flower. The flower color represents the walker's connection to the disease.
Blue represents someone with Alzheimer's or dementia
Purple is for someone who has lost a loved one to the disease.
Yellow represents someone who is currently supporting or caring for someone with Alzheimer’s.
Orange is for everyone who supports the cause and vision of a world without Alzheimer’s.
Alzheimer's Disease
More than five-million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, and almost two-thirds are women. The disease is classified as a type of dementia that affects memory, thinking and behavior. Alzheimer’s symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, eventually becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks.
Fundraising for Alzheimer’s Association All funds raised through the Walk to End Alzheimer's promote further care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. The Alzheimer's Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
Rain or Shine Event
The Walk will be held in the rain. However, if the weather is severe, event organizers will need to cancel. Consult the Walk homepage for updates on or before the morning of the event.
Volunteers Needed for the Walk
