Deputy Shot at Katy Home, Suspect At-Large

A Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy was shot when he responded to a call at a Katy home around 11:00 pm Friday night. The officer was life flighted from Katy's Methodist Hospital to the Medical Center. The shooting suspect is at-large. UPDATE: Shooter has been found. Read more below.

UPDATE (June 15, 2019 at 8:27 am:) "Ray has been located and detained," says Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. "Ray was still armed with a pistol. He was found a couple miles from the initial scene."

Deputy Shot Responding to Ex-Spousal Dispute

On Friday evening around 11:00 pm, a deputy with the Harris County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at the 19600 block of Plantation Tree Court in Katy. According to authorities, the resident returned home to find that her ex-husband had allegedly broken into her home. A fight ensued and authorities were notified. The deputy was shot at the house while responding to the call.

Shooter At-Large

The ex-husband and shooter is being described as 39-year-old Brady Joseph Ray. Investigators describe Ray as a 39-year-old white man, 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a medium build, wearing black shorts and a gray shirt. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez warns that Ray is armed with a pistol.

Ray fled the scene when a second deputy arrived and drove the wounded deputy to Katy's Methodist Hospital.

Injured Deputy Expected to Recover

The deputy is reported to have been shot in the upper leg and was quickly life flighted to Memorial Hermann in downtown Houston where he underwent surgery. He is expected to recover.
