A man was charged with the murder of his mother Friday after she was found deceased outside an apartment and he was found covered in blood.
Investigators said they were called to a residence at Park Falls Apartments on Park Row (located between N. Fry Rd and Greenhouse) around 5:20 p.m. Friday and discovered a woman outside laying on the ground bleeding from her head. She was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders according to officials with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
The victim's son, Gabriel Pereyra, 34, was found covered in blood inside the apartment. Pereyra's home address, according to the Harris County District Clerk's office, is the same as the mother, where the murder took place, although there is conflicting information if the son was currently living with his mother.
Authorities believe the mother was sitting in a chair inside the residence when the attack began. It is unclear if the suspect confessed to the events but investigators were able to ascertain from the crime scene where the mother was stabbed.
Pereyra's mother ran out of the apartment after being stabbed and died on the sidewalk, the sheriff's office said. The coroner's office will perform an autopsy to find out exactly how she died in addition to how many stab wounds she endured and where.
Pereyra faces one charge of murder and is being held at the Harris County Jail without bond. His next court appearance is Monday, October 15. Pereyra has no previous criminal history in Harris County.
