It's the one thing most Katyites can always agree on. Mexican Food. Here's a great list of some of Katy's best!

Killer appetizers, but save room for main dishes One of the new kids in town, Abuelo's had a tall order to fill to stand out among the plethora of Tex Mex options in Katy - and they delivered in the form of killer appetizer options. You'll forget all about the entrees after a few bites of seared tuna and shrimp ceviche, beef tenderloin flameado, and of course, Queso Diablo. But definitely save room for their delicious main dishes like their Durango burrito (pictured), faijita chimichanga, and firecracker shrimp tacos.

Delicious combo plates and a to-die-for dessert

Uncle Julio's is the perfect mix of traditional, familiar recipes you know and love, with a little razzle dazzle thrown in. Honestly, why would you ever do cake and candles again when you can have this personalized, giant chocolate pinata dessert that feeds the entire table? It's filled with mini churros, fresh fruit, and served with raspberry, chocolate, and caramel dipping sauces and whipped cream.

Known for their fajitas and exotic margarita specials Recently remodeled and better than ever, El Asador has an extensive menu with Tex Mex traditional faves like numerous fajitas and combo plates, as well as plenty of Mex Mex items too. They have 21 nice-sized portion lunch specials for 10.99 and under, and half-priced flavored margaritas all day Mondays through Wednesday. If you're a margarita connoisseur, try one of their exotics like pineapple or spicy cucumber. Yum!

Legendary fresh tortillas and flavorful menu items With "tortilla" in the name, you know that they have to live up to the hype with fresh, hot tortillas to wrap around your fajita meat. And they do. They have traditional Tex Mex and plenty of sea food options like lobster tacos and bacon-wrapped pepper shrimp. Parents love the large, outdoor patio and sand pit almost as much as the kids do.

A hometown favorite with plentiful platters Whether you stop in at the Katy Mills location or grab a table at the old familiar spot on Highway Boulevard in old Katy, you can't go wrong sharing a plate of fajitas with friends, or keeping a stuffed avocado all to yourself. Their varied menu has grilled platters, traditional favorites, seafood and chicken dishes, and more. They offer a make-your-own enchiladas combination plate for just $9.99.

Fresh ingredients and indoor or outdoor dining A Katy favorite for over 20 years, Katyites rave about their table side guacamole service, chile relleno, fajitas, and chicken dishes. We've also heard rumors that their charro beans are absolutely addicting. Whether you're having breakfast, lunch, or dinner, everything at El Jarrito is fresh and cooked from scratch. They have an extensive menu with plenty of options and nice-sized portions.

Unique house specialties, signature sauces The first thing you notice about Chuy's are waiters with lots of flair and technicolor decorations hanging from every inch of the building; but don't let that distract you from the richness of the food. Beware of their famously huge burritos which they claim to be as "Big As Yo Face." The Chuychanga is an all-time favorite, as well as their baja tacos that you must top with Chuy's signature homemade sauces like mild tomatillo, creamy jalapeno, and hatch green chile sauce.

Exceptional dishes and flexible, friendly service The overall impression we get from our readers is that El Rancho consistently delivers on exceptional customer service and willingness to make substitutions. They have flavorful menu options that keep Katyites coming back like sizzling fajitas, carnes asadas, chicken platters, and all the usual traditional Tex Mex. According to regulars, the taco salad and stuffed avocado are the must-try dishes on the menu.

Queso fundido and homemade tamales Come for their famous queso fundido (melted white, Mexican cheese loaded with meat or veggies) but stay for delicious traditional dishes like hand-rolled home made tamales the popular crab or lobster enchiladas. If that doesn't tempt you, you still have plenty of other steak, seafood, salad options and of course ten fajitas platters to choose from.

Kid-friendly playground and parent sized portions The menu is packed with delicious options like the carne guisada and Big Daddy Chimi, but the charm here lies in the family-friendly atmosphere. With a massive covered playground, little monkeys can go wild and even treat themselves to a free soft serve, leaving mom and dad free to relax and enjoy their meal.
