Cooper Potts, a 16-year-old Katy student was tragically killed in an ATV accident on Sunday evening.
On Sunday, September 2, 2018, Cooper "Coop" Potts was killed in an ATV accident in Wimberley, Texas. The cause of death is unknown, but an autopsy was expected to be completed on Tuesday.
In the days preceding the funeral, the Potts family is being surrounded by words of love, comfort, and prayer by the Katy community. Coop, as he was known by those who loved him, was active in his youth group at Kingsland Baptist Church, played lacrosse for Seven Lakes High School, and was known to everyone as a friendly, funny, outgoing kid who had a heart for Christ and serving others.
He was an all-around great kid with a Texas-sized smile and amazing work ethic that he applied to every aspect of his life. He earned the love and respect of his peers, teachers, and coaches at a young age in lacrosse, swimming, football, and tennis.
SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE
"Even though Cooper Potts' life was shorter than expected; he made the most of his Journey and will be immensely more successful than most people I know. Successful in creating friendships and relationships that will last until we meet again. Successful in creating smiles everyday, successful in making others feel wanted and needed in this world. He filled everyone’s life with laughter, cheer, inspiration, and a love that rivals the greatest of angels. I consider every day we spent together a blessing and I was honored to have him in my life," said Cooper's former Coach Mike Chuter in a post dedicated to him on Facebook.
Wendy Duncan, a close friend of the Potts family for many years, remembers Cooper as "mischievous, precocious, witty, and full of life."
"He gave Kara a run for her money and loved her intensely. Coop Dog and Dave have a special bond that this temporary separation will never break. Cooper, Avery and Carson loved each with genuine devotion and care," she says.
Cooper's peers are taking to social media, posting photos and creating vigils in memory of their friend.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE
He is survived by his mother and father, Kara and Dave, sister Avery, and brother Carson. There will be a memorial service for Cooper on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy, 20555 Kingsland Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family have asked for donations to Kingsland Baptist Church's missions fund in honor of Cooper.
