Arrest Made in Workplace Murder of Katy Police Officer's Father

Evan Lyndell, 34, has been arrested for the stabbing death of Harry Parnell at Orizon Industries in Brookshire on Wednesday. Lyndell was taken into custody off Barker Cypress Road between Saums and Park Row Drive in Katy after a 15-minute standoff with authorities.

Workplace Stabbing

Parker was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault of 64-year-old Harry Parnell who died at the scene. Jose Rangel, 36, was critically injured at the scene and was life-flighted to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He is in critical condition. The fatal stabbing of the supervisor and injuring of the other employee took place in Waller County Wednesday night at Orizon Industries, a manufacturing business located at 7007 FM 362 in Brookshire.

Senseless Act of Violence

The Katy Police Department's statement reads, "Our hearts are heavy as one of our own, Officer Parnell lost his father in a senseless act of violence last night. We are praying for the Parnell family, Jose Rangel and everyone involved as the healing process begins. We pray for justice to be served now that Evan Lyndell Parker is in custody."

"Thank you to Waller County Sheriff's Office, Texas Rangers, Harris County Constables Office Pct 5, Harris County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, U.S. Marshall's and Katy Police Department CID Division for your hard work and dedication to this case."

Extensive Criminal History

The accused, Evan Lyndell Parker, worked at the company as an independent contractor for about eight months. He has an extensive criminal history prior to the fatal stabbing. His background includes, aggravated robbery, assault, resisting arrest and aggravated assault against a public servant.

Authorities say the accused confessed he "felt picked on" at work as possible motive for the senseless stabbing and injuring of his victims.

The victim, Harry Parnell, had been with Orizon Industries for 20 years and had planned to retire later this year.
