Child Custody Dispute Leads to Shooting at Katy Walmart

A shooting occurred at Katy Walmart Tuesday evening. Authorities say that the incident was the result of a child custody dispute. A woman was shot in the leg but the child was unharmed.

Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a Katy Walmart (6060 block of Fry Road.) The incident involved a man, his child, the mother, and his girlfriend, and a family member of the mother. The girlfriend was shot in the leg.

According to authorities, the altercation began inside the Walmart store when the child’s mother showed up and a fight began. They took the fight to the parking lot where things escalated.

Deputies reported that the child was inside a vehicle when a male family member of the mother’s shot the father’s girlfriend in the leg. While this happened in front of the child, they were unharmed.

They fled the scene and had a brief chase in the neighboring subdivision before crashing their vehicle near Fry Road ad Coldfield.

The girlfriend was taken to the hospital and has been reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting suspect, believed to be a member of the mother’s family is said by authorities to have fled north on Fry Road after the crash. The wrecked vehicle was found empty when deputies got to it.
