City of Katy Repeats Event Recognition as a New Season of Programing Begins

The City of Katy Parks and Recreation Department has once again earned the prestigious Lone Star Recreation Programming Achievement Awards. This back-to-back honor is because of their Historic Town Square events.

The city of Katy Parks and Recreation Department continue to put together top level, family-friendly programming and their efforts are being rewarded. Last week, the earned the Lone Star Recreation Programming Achievement Award for their event programming. This is the second year in a row that the city has been honored with this achievement.
“These awards reflect the intentional planning, creativity, and dedication our team brings to every event,” says Tourism and Marketing Events Coordinator Kaci Maris. “Our goal is to create experiences that not only bring people together but also support our downtown businesses and showcase the best of Katy.”
Over the past two years, the Historic Town Square has experienced a renewed sense of vibrancy and momentum, hosting dynamic events from March through December that have drawn residents and visitors from across the region. From large-scale festivals to family-friendly gatherings, the programming has transformed downtown into a consistent destination for entertainment, culture, and community connection.
The next big event will be Street Dance on the Square on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Families and couples can enjoy live music and plenty of country and line dancing. This event will kick off the season full of fun events by the award-winning event planning team.
A DJ and line dancing with Done Deal Dancing will be from 7:00-8:30 p.m. and musician Coleton Black will take the stage for live music from 8:30-10:00 p.m. Like all of their events, the fun can be found at the City of Katy Historic Town Square (904 Avenue C.)
The City of Katy’s success is made possible through strong partnerships and community collaboration. The department extends its gratitude to downtown business owners for their ongoing support during event days, as well as to event sponsors whose contributions help elevate the experience for attendees. Appreciation is also extended to the Mayor and City Council for their continued leadership and support, along with the Parks Board and Keep Katy Beautiful for their assistance throughout the year. Volunteers remain an essential part of each event’s success, providing invaluable time and service to the community.
With two consecutive Lone Star Recreation Programming Achievement Awards, the City of Katy Parks and Recreation Department looks ahead to 2026 with continued enthusiasm. Plans are already underway to build upon the energy and excellence that have defined recent seasons at Historic Town Square.
In addition to the department’s recognition, Parks Superintendent Richie Kainer was recently named Texas Region Parks Professional of the Year — an honor that follows his recognition as City of Katy Employee of the Year just one year prior. His leadership and dedication reflect the high standards upheld by the entire Parks and Recreation team.
