Our Katy weather has been wet and yucky to start off the holiday season and it’s resulted in the changing of several local events including the City of Katy’s Annual Tree Lighting. This change works out for the better as Katy families now get two great holiday events at the same time tomorrow evening.

Weather changed the annual City of Katy Christmas Tree Lighting from Thursday to tomorrow night, Saturday, December 6, 2025. Now the popular launch to the Katy holiday season will be combined with the city’s first-ever Katy Nutcracker Exchange. And this is a Free event for the entire family.
“Even though the weather dampened our event on Thursday, December 4th, the blending of the Annual City of Katy Christmas Tree Lighting with our new Katy Nutcracker Exchange created a beautiful opportunity to celebrate the true spirit of Christmas together,” says City of Katy Tourism and Marketing Event Coordinator Kaci Maris. “This season reminds us of the hope, joy, and peace symbolized by the birth of Christ, and our tree lighting has become a place where families can gather, make memories, and share in that joy.”
The event will include pictures with Santa and the Grinch, Carolers, Train rides, Cookie decorating, Letters to Santa, Food trucks, Vendors, Downtown shops, Snow, Petting zoo, Bounce houses and so much more!
“Our local vendors, who brave the elements to participate, help us extend that spirit of giving to others in need—allowing the Exchange to donate nearly $20,000 to charities in its very first year,” says Maris. “Their generosity, along with the support of our sponsors and everyone who attends, reflects the heart of this community.”
According to Maris, no city event would be possible without the kindness and selflessness of so many.
“Our downtown businesses, sponsors, attractions and activity partners, vendors, boards, volunteers, city staff who give their own time, media partners, schools, and of course, our wonderful residents. Everything we do, we do for them,” says Maris. “We are truly blessed to share such strong bonds with so many remarkable people.”
The event starts at 10:00 a.m. and goes through 6:00 p.m. with the official tree lighting starting around 5:45 p.m. All the fun takes place at the City of Katy Historic Town Square at 904 Avenue C.
“My hope is that this event brings a sense of peace, warmth, and togetherness to families during this special season, and that it continues to unite our community in the true goodwill of Christmas,” says Maris.
