Katy residents can sign up for the KTALERT Program to get emergency alerts from city staff. While this program is for City of Katy residents, those in surrounding neighborhoods can still sign up for alerts which help keep the greater Katy area safe and informed.

The KTALERT Program is an emergency notification system that enables the City of Katy to provide residents with critical information quickly in multiple situations such as flooding, unexpected road closures, missing persons, evacuations, etc.

“KTALERT is the City of Katy’s mechanism to provide immediate warnings to the public from the city’s Emergency Operations Center,” says Chris Harris, City of Katy Mayor Pro Tem. “The system enables disaster managers to alert certain neighborhoods or citywide, and the secondary feature is opting-in to receiving city news and event updates.”

While the system is geared to City of Katy residents, Katyites outside of the city can still benefit from the alert system. To sign up without a City of Katy address, anyone can put in the City Hall’s address (901 Avenue C.)

With KTALERT, residents can decide how they receive messages. Options include home or business phone, cell, email, text, hearing impaired receiving devices, and more.

The City of Katy stresses that if they can’t reach you, they can’t alert you so it’s important to sign up for this free service.

As we are in Hurricane Season and witnessing historic flooding, it is important for residents to have emergency plans and a reliable way for city management to send alerts.
