Seven Lakes High School in Katy will become a host location for no-cost COVID-19 testing, opening as soon as this Friday, or early next week. Katy ISD announced that the Fort Bend County Health and Human Services Department will be setting up drive-thru testing in the parking lot near the Competition Gym.

Seven Lakes High School (SLHS), located at 9251 South Fry Road, could begin no-cost COVID-19 testing as early as the end of the week. The District reported that Fort Bend County has been working with local entities to provide easier access for residents to get tested. As a result, they have been establishing free COVID-19 drive-thru sites across the region.

Katy ISD Assures SLHS Families

In a message to parents, Katy ISD said the following:

“We want to assure parents, students and staff who may be visiting the campus to retrieve items over the coming weeks, that the testing site will be distanced from entrances they will use.

There will be no contact between SLHS visitors, and those individuals who will be operating or using the testing site. To help aide county officials and law enforcement in securing the area designated for testing, all campus visitors are asked to refrain from stopping by the area, offering assistance or asking questions to workers setting up the site.”

April Kocher has a student enrolled at SLHS and said she’s not concerned with safety while retrieving items from the school.

I think it's great that SLHS can pitch in and help us get back to normal," says Kocher. “I trust the county and District will take every precaution necessary to keep the public safe. Testing is an important part of returning to normal."

Traffic Concerns

Theresa Vigil lives behind SLHS and is concerned about the increase in traffic in the area surrounding the school.

“I'm worried about the traffic around the area, because I've seen the line at Legacy (Stadium) before it was open testing (where you had to have a doctor's note)," says Vigil. "I'm not thrilled that it will be up and running before the kids can go get their stuff from their lockers, especially the athletic lockers because of the staging of contaminated clothing in the gym."

This is a county-run operation, and not organized by Katy ISD. When more information is available, Fort Bend County will notify the public regarding the opening date for the SLHS site and how to register.
