Fun events fill the calendar this month in Katy! Love is in the air, Mardi Gras season begins, and we celebrate all 29 days in February. Don’t miss these free events in Katy for the community to enjoy.


Central Green

Tuesdays

9 a.m.


Start your Tuesday with a healthy mind and body. All skill levels are invited to come out and practice the ancient Chinese Martial Art that centers the person, body, mind and spirit.



Friday, February 14

6 - 9 p.m.


Love will be in the air at Central Green Park on Valentine’s Day. Central Green will be the ideal Valentine’s experience! The theme this year will be the 1940’s as they show the classic film “Casablanca” on the big screen.


To add to the fun, Central Green encourages guests to dress up like their favorite 1940’s Hollywood couple. An interactive photo booth based on Alexa Meade art will be set up to capture the experience. Plus, two actors in monochromatic clothing and makeup, portraying “Casablanca” stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, will also be at the park!


Saturday, February 22

1 - 3 p.m.


One of Central Green’s biggest and brightest events of the year, H-Town Sports Day is a must-attend event for anyone who likes sports and want to support the area’s local professional teams and athletes! Meet Houston Dynamo players, Toro, Texans players, the Shooting Stars, professional MMA fighters, an Olympic gold medalist and more.


Kids and parents will have an opportunity to learn about local sporting opportunities in the area. Guests can participate in athlete interviews, photo ops, games and lots of fun!


Friday, February 28

10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Open to 1st - 5th graders and 2 to 5-year olds


Abrakadoodle nurtures creative thinkers in an atmosphere that unleashes creativity in children through their curriculum based on Process Art - Art that places emphasis upon the learning taking place rather than the finished product. Kids will bring an art project home every class.


Saturday, February 29

6 - 7:30 p.m.


Join Central Green for a spectacular evening with the amazing dancing talent of Bollywood Dancing Stars. This super-fun and interactive event will take you on a journey to India as you experience authentic dance and music through the majesty and excitement of Bollywood on the big screen!


Guests of the event will have an opportunity to learn Bollywood dance moves, learn about Indian culture, enjoy giveaways and have a high-energy, exciting time.

 

Monty Ballard YMCA - Cinco Ranch

Friday, February 7

5:30 - 8 p.m.


Join the Cinco Ranch YMCA for their Lunar New Year Celebration! The Lunar New Year is a time for togetherness and sharing meals. The YMCA invites the community to celebrate the occasion with water lanterns, fun activities for families and a community potluck. Be sure to bring your favorite dish to share with others!

 

Thursday, February 13

6 - 8 p.m.


No Label Brewing is joining the City of Katy's Parks & Recreation Dept for a Valentine’s Pawty! Have fun with your furry friends, snap pics in their kissing booth, and check out other vendors and enter giveaways. Fort Bend County Animal Services will have pets available for adoption. Come show and share the love! Admission is free.


Tuesday, February 25

4 - 8 p.m.


Celebrate the beginning of Mardi Gras 2020 on Fat Tuesday at No Label Brewery. General admission is free. Get ready to celebrate with some goodies and raffle items benefiting Greenawalds Service rescue dogs programs.

 

Saturday, February 22

12 - 10 p.m.


MKT Distillery is hosting their second annual Cajun festival with gumbo, crawfish, cocktail contests as well as live music and bounce houses. Proceeds will benefit local nonprofit Katy Christian Ministries.

February 25th is National Pancake Day! Visit IHOP for a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes and donate to help children battling critical illnesses.

Each month Maud Marks’ latest health series features different topics with workshops and classes offering resources and tips to lead a healthy lifestyle. Learn to improve your personal well-being through simple lifestyle changes. This month a representative from Texas A&M Agrilife - Better Living for Texans presents information on healthy carbohydrates and how to incorporate it into your everyday diet.

Celebrate Black History month and learn about black heroes who laid the groundwork for some of the most amazing discoveries of the modern era, especially when it comes to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.


Hosted by the incredible scientist, George Washington Carver, a man who invented thousands of uses for the lowly peanut, this show introduces students to other incredible scientists, entrepreneurs and groundbreakers from Black History. Meet Madame CJ Walker, Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall and more!
