Homestyle Cooking in Katy, Texas

With all of the exotic dining options in Katy, every now and then we get a hankering for some good, old-fashioned recipes that taste like Texas. Here's a few places to find homestyle cooking in Katy.

Texas Roadhouse 20840 Katy Fwy, Katy 281-829-2400

Fair warning: the homemade hot rolls and cinnamon butter are absolutely, 100% addictive. But resist the urge to eat more than two baskets, because everything on the menu is downright delicious. From their "Fall-off-the-bone ribs" to the massive steak selection and classic country sides like loaded mashed potatoes and fried okra, the combinations for a heart country meal are endless.

Borders is famous for their fajitas and for adding a creative kick to tradition American dishes and Tex Mex favorites. We recommend the beer battered onion rings and the Jose Burger.

Snappy's is best known for their rib-sticking and delicious breakfast specials, fresh coffee, and relaxed atmosphere, but their lunch menu and daily lunch specials are great too. One of the local favorites is the grilled pork chop accompanied by three sides and Texas Toast or a roll.

The breakfast lunch and dinner chain is a southern daydream with a charming country store and candy shop to browse while you wait for a table, and some of the best comfort food you'll ever eat. Must-try's are the Country Fried Steak with cream gravy or the Chicken Pot Pie. Wash it down with a sweet iced tea, and you'll fit right in.

Arguably Katy's favorite, family-oriented, buffet-style BBQ joint. Kiddos love the mac and cheese, and our mouths start watering over the massive baked potato, loaded, and piled high with chopped beef.

Black Bear Diner 24600 Katy Fwy.

The Big Foot Chicken Fried Steak is Black Bear's best selling dinner item, and is also one of the stars of the breakfast menu. Battered, deep-fried, and smothered in house-made country gravy, the breakfast serving comes with two eggs and hash browns or potatoes or fresh fruit and a biscuit. The dinner platter plus one side and a cornbread muffin.

The buffet-style restaurant is always teeming with Texas favorites, but one of the most popular lunch specials is the Luann Platter. Choose from a meat entree like Roast Chicken, Fried Fish, or Liver and Onions, two classic sides and a roll.

Texas Tradition 5321 Hwy Blvd.

Texas Tradition does an outstanding job delivering gut-busting burgers and traditional southern fare to happy diners, but the real treat is the creative twist they put on some of their dishes. Blending American, Tex Mex, and Cajun recipes means that there is something on the menu for everyone to love. We can't get enough of the Texas Super Nachos and the fried pickles.

Harris County Smokehouse 222 W. Grand Pkwy. S.

Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Harris County Smokehouse smokes their brisket overnight, yielding rich, smoky, flavorful menu items. Try a BBQ beef sandwich on a bun or poboy and french fries.
