The shooting happened around 2:00 pm Saturday in the 2000 block of Little Bighorn, located near the corner of Saums Rd and N. Fry Rd in the Sundown neighborhood. Neighbors heard several gunshots and then saw a Cadillac Escalade speeding down the street with a shot out window.

Details as to what led up to the shooting are still under investigation. Early information indicates that the car was at an intersection in the neighborhood and was the target of a drive by shooting. The 18-year old brother of the victim was behind the wheel of the Cadillac Escalade and drove the injured boy to the Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, according to Harris County Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Joe Ambriz.

Life Flight then transported the child to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston's Medical Center where he underwent surgery Saturday evening. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the boy is expected to survive.

Police were on the scene into the night Saturday investigating. The intersection with a blue truck were taped off with crime scene tape but investigators have not said how the truck is related.
