Four Katy ISD Varsity football teams made it to the playoffs this year...Katy, Seven Lakes, Taylor, and Tompkins. This was the first year that Tompkins advanced to the playoffs. The amount of great talent and amazing coaching that all the varsity teams are seeing will surely increase Katy ISD's showing in future ^A Division 1 and 2 playoffs.

Katy High School

Katy met up with North Shore on Friday, November 30 at NRG Stadium. Both teams were looking for redemption, and bragging rights, after losing to the other...North Shore to Katy in the 2017 playoffs and Katy to Northshore in the 2018 season opener. It was clear in the first quarter that both teams were going to leave it all on the field for the title. North Shore scored two touchdowns six minutes into the game.

After a game that clearly matches any NFL game, North Shore came out on top with a final score of 49-38. Even with their state championship dreams crushed, the Katy Tigers players and fans were very humble in complementing and congratulating North Shore. Many Tiger fans predicted North Shore would win state and be a team to be reckoned with for many years to come.

Tompkins High School

The Tompkins Falcons played the West Brook Bruins for the 6A Division 2 Regional Semi-Final title on Saturday at NRG Stadium. Both teams were 10-2 for the 2018 season entering the matchup. Right out of the gate, Tompkins scored three touchdowns in the first quarter. At the start of the second quarter, the score was 21-7 and Tompkins looked primed to take home the title and move forward in the playoffs.

Before halftime, West Brook was able to narrow the gap and they entered the second half with Tompkins ahead by 3 (24-21). In the fourth quarter with 6:41 left, the Bruins were able to inch ahead of Tompkins. After much back and forth with the score, West Brook was able to prevail and take home the Regional Semi-Final title. Victory was so close that the Tompkins team could taste it but with a fumble at the 15-yard line with 15 seconds left their playoff run came to an end.

Tompkins has had a dream season. Entering 2018, they were on a 13-game losing streak, not winning any games in the 2017 season. Week after week, they fought hard with their skill and heart and proved that they were a team to watch. Tompkins High opened in the 2013/14 school year. In five years, the Falcons have come a long way and the Katy community is very proud.
