The New Year will see continued growth in the community especially with businesses that will impact local families.

Â
The Katy community continues to grow and this helps local families. Barnes and Noble and Costco are set to open in the New Year.
Â
Katy families missing the Party City on South Fry will soon have a Barnes and Noble (435 Fry Road.) The largest retail bookseller in the U.S. will take over the former Party City space. The 21,883-square foot space renovation was previously scheduled to wrap in February 2026, but no updates have been given.
Â
Physical stores continue to struggle in the current climate of online shopping. The demise of the Katy Party City store that folded as result of their nationwide closure and liquidation is proof to the struggle. Yet the Greater Houston area continues to be a good location for physical Barnes & Noble brick and mortar stores.
Â
The new Katy location will join several stores, including locations in Copperfield, Town & Country Village, River Oaks, The Woodlands, and Webster.
Â
Barnes & Noble also runs an online bookstore and according to their website, has Barnes & Noble College, which serves over 700 university and college campuses.
Â
Barnes & Noble is moving away from their typical big stores and focusing on a new design strategy that is less traditional from their earlier stores and more community-oriented to allow a more intimate atmosphere for book lovers. There will also be an expanded children’s and young adult sections and books tailored for the local community.
Â
Another major retail company coming to Katy is Costco Wholesale. The store is expected to break ground in March with plans to be completed by November 2026. Costco is going in between West Road and the Grand Parkway. It will be part of a mixed-development that will span from Elyson FM 529 to West Road.
Â
According to state filings, the warehouse, that is estimated to be around $64.5 million, will span 160,000 square feet. It will also include a separate fuel facility with 16 pumps estimated at $3.3 million.
Â
The city works to keep up with the growth that comes with new businesses. More schools are planned and master-planned community developments continue to bring newcomers to the area.
