Katy ISD’s Partners in Education invites the community to support students and families in need during the holiday season through the Food for Families program. Since its inception 19 years ago, the program has raised well over $600,000.

Food for Families, a Katy ISD Partners in Education yearly initiative, unites the Katy ISD staff and community to help Katy students in need. When school is not in session, such as over the summer and winter break, Food for Families helps to keep families in need fed.

"Food for Families reminds us of what makes the Katy ISD community so special: we take care of each other," says Karen Lewis, Executive Director of Community Partnerships. "That is why we say that the program is more than a gift card. It’s about letting our families know that their community is here for them."

During the Fall 2025, Food for Families raised $39,179, served 665 families, and reached all 76 campuses, providing each family with a $75 gift card for essential needs. Last summer they opened the program up to help support secondary families as well.

Donations are now open to support families in need over this 2026 holiday season.

"For a family going through a difficult season, that $75 can mean breakfast when school is out, the freedom to choose what their family needs most, or simply one less thing to worry about," says Lewis. "Every donation, no matter the amount, is our community coming together to say, ‘We care, and we’re here to help.'"

Katy ISD identifies the students who will benefit from the Food for Families program. Counselors then share that information with the Partners in Education team.

The Partners in Education team collects donations from the community and corporations and converts them into grocery store gift cards. Then a campus staff member delivers the gift to the student along with a note of support from the Katy ISD community.

Every Katy ISD campus participates in the program, so it effectively supports student need across the district.

"Through the continued generosity of our community members and businesses, we can ensure that all students thrive," says Lewis.
