Food for Families, a Katy ISD Partners in Education yearly initiative, unites the Katy ISD staff and community to help Katy students in need. When school is not in session, such as over the summer and winter break, Food for Families helps to keep families in need fed.

During the Fall 2025, Food for Families raised $39,179, served 665 families, and reached all 76 campuses, providing each family with a $75 gift card for essential needs. This Spring the goal is to support 300 families at Katy ISD junior highs and high schools. Meeting the need of secondary students is different.

“For many of our older students, life doesn’t stop when the school day ends,” says Karen Lewis,

Executive Director of Community Partnerships, “They are helping care for siblings, working

jobs, and managing rigorous academic schedules. This campaign is about taking one thing off

their plate so they can focus on being students.”

To feed those students identified going into summer, Food for Families has set a goal of $$22,500 in required funding.

"We recognize that there are families in our community who need additional support and our Food for Families program allows us to provide for some of their basic needs," says Lewis.

Katy ISD identifies the students who will benefit from the Food for Families program. Counselors then share that information with the Partners in Education team.

The Partners in Education team collects donations from the community and corporations and converts them into grocery store gift cards. Then a campus staff member delivers the gift to the student along with a note of support from the Katy ISD community.

Every Katy ISD campus participates in the program, so it effectively supports student need across the district.

"Through the continued generosity of our community members and businesses, we can ensure that all students thrive," says Lewis.
