Katy ISD Sends Record Number of Destination Imagination Teams to Finals

Katy ISD sent 16 teams, a record number, to this year’s Destination Imagination 2024 Global Finals. Katy students earned six of the competition’s top spots and were ranked among the world’s most creative students.

Katy ISD Has Never Sent This Many Teams to Global Finals

Katy ISD sent a record number of Destination Imagination teams to this year’s Global Finals that took place in Kansas City, Missouri from May 22-25, 2024.

Katy Students Win Top Awards

Out of the District’s 16 teams, six earned the competition’s top spots across the three levels of competition and were ranked among the world’s most creative students.

“We are so proud of the work of our Destination Imagination teams in this year’s competition for their hard work and creativity,” says Dr. Joan Otten, Director of Gifted and Talented & Advanced Academic Studies.

Team T-R. EX from Beckendorff Junior High was also awarded the Renaissance Award for demonstrating outstanding skill in design, engineering, execution and performance for their life-like dinosaur creatures, spacecraft and waterfall feature as part of their Engineering Challenge.  

This year’s challenges were:

• Technical Challenge 

• Engineering Challenge 

• Scientific Challenge 

• Fine Arts Challenge 

• Improvisational Challenge 

• Service Learning 

Destination Imagination celebrates K-12 students’ creativity and innovation, providing students with the opportunity to display their talents and gifts in team competition. Students use their ingenuity, along with acquired skills, to answer unique learning challenges.  

“It is gratifying to know that our students continue to display their innovation, talent and imagination, particularly representing the district in international competition,” says Dr. Otten.
