Katy ISD Students Top State Titles in UIL Academic State Meets

Katy ISD students earned state championships and top-three finishes at the 2026 UIL Academic State Meet, showcasing the District's competitive academic advantage versus the state's top contenders.

Katy ISD students showed off in the 2026 UIL Academic State Meets this summer by earning state championships and top-three finishes.
Leading the way was Seven Lakes High School, which finished third overall in the Class 6A state standings and capturing the Class 6A Social Studies State Championship. Team members included Matthew Myers, Andy Truong, Rey Georghiou and Adam Brown.
"Katy ISD students continue to demonstrate what is possible through hard work, perseverance and a passion for learning," says Katy ISD Instructional Officer Kristina Sides. "Competing at the state level is an accomplishment in itself, and these students excelled against the very best academic competitors in Texas."
Seven Lakes also earned second place in Number Sense, led by individual state champion Nayaneshwar Sanampuri, and third place in Accounting. Claire Simoens earned a silver medal with a second-place individual finish in Accounting.
The Spartans continued their success in the UIL Film Festival, where Sofia Morias and Bianca Salinas captured the Class 6A Traditional Animation state title for their film “Together or Naught.” Zaina Quadri earned third place in Digital Animation for “To the Core.”
Tompkins High School added to the District's success with a third-place finish in Computer Science. Team members Nathan Yan, Guhan Gargya, Andrew Yoon and Zoe Xue also earned the highest programming score in Texas. Shiv Patel earned a bronze medal with a third-place individual finish in Accounting.
Jordan High School's spelling team of Aimee Xia, Maria Guerra-Galvan, Qianyu Lou and Fayna Wang earned a state runner-up finish, while Danielle Merritt placed third in Editorial Writing.
