Wow, Katy has grown,” says owner Rusty Wylie. “We had just 3 high schools when we opened and now there are 10. There was a large field behind us (no strip center), Highland Knolls at Mason Road was a stop sign, and really no one ever drove on Grand Parkway because there were no houses West of Grand Parkway.”

Chick-fil-A real estate moved Rusty Wylie from Tennessee to Texas in the Spring of 1995 to assist CFA Inc. with the Galleria Mall location. After working there for several months, he asked if he could stay in Texas and run the newly opened Mason Road location, because it had yet to have a franchisee.

“They were definitely hesitant since I was on 23 years old,” recalls Wylie. “They did select me, I moved across the country and never left.  More than anything, I was willing to move to wherever the opportunity was.”

The Mason Road location was the third “free standing” store to open in the Houston market and now there are more than 100.

“For years, I was the only CFA franchisee in Katy,” says Wylie. “Now there are four of us (Amanda Baca, Courtney Holmes, Cynthia Cavin).  We work very well together and I grateful for a group that is fun and challenges each other.”

The Mason Road Chick-fil-A has worked with major community charities and projects over the years. Wylie says that their favorite partnership has been with Katy ISD via Partnerships in Education.

“I am a Board member for the Katy Education Foundation,” says Wylie. “We employ kids that are special needs thru KISD at all 3 of our stores.  I am also a donor for Arc of Katy.  At 2 of our stores, we host Crafts with the Cow, which is free.”

Wylie’s goal is for them to be “an indispensable blessing is our community.”

We want to meet the needs of our community and honor our guests through our service,” says Wylie. “We've done fundraisers for things like Living Water, stuff the bus for kid's backpacks, blood drives, etc. We have free college tuition for all of our team members via online thru Point University.”

Wylie’s family has grown up in Katy over these years. He’s married to Stefany and they have two grown children who both graduated from Faith West Academy in Katy.

He’s proud to say that he’s had 6 former team members go on to become CFA franchisees owners in Texas, California, Utah, etc.

“We’re looking forward to seeing everyone on September 17,” says Wylie. “We’ll have a backdrop for pictures, fun stuff for kids with our cows. We’re looking forward to it!”
