Katy Race Car Driver Sets the Stage for Season Win and Beyond

Katy race car driver Ty Hymel is having a winning season as a playoff championship driver. He looks to represent his hometown in the bigger races.
Ty Hymel is in his 11th racing season and continues to represent his hometown of Katy. With this being his best season yet, he’s making a run for the championship while planning to pursue bigger races and continued growth next season.
Hymel is a Katy High School 2019 graduate. He was on the Katy High School varsity golf team, but racing has always been his dream.
When he was 3 years old, Hymel saw a race on television at his grandparent’s house. “I fell in love and fast-forward to today and here I am, 26 years old next week, and racing,” explains Hymel. “The ultimate goal is to win as high as we can. We want to take this to the highest level of the sport. “
He loves the sport and wants to bring more people, Katy people to understand and support racing.
Hymel races at Houston Motorsports Park (11620 N. Lake Houston Parkway) and playoff races start this Saturday, September 12, 2026. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. Adults are $20, kids 6-12 are $5 and children under 5 are free.
The local championships work like NASCAR, the top four racers in the last three season races (the playoff races) advance. Points are also counted throughout the season. Hymel currently sits in 2nd position based on points and his previous season wins.
The goal has always been to the top and represent Katy on the big stage.
“We want to make a name for ourselves in the bigger races,” says Hymel.
“This has been our best year by far with sponsors,” he adds. “We are in a very good place to take our race beyond this area to the big races in Louisianna, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Florida.”

“I love everything about racing,” says Hymel. “I love bringing my family around the track. This sport is more than athleticism; it’s hard determination, you must manage tires, car set up and so many different things all while trying to pass opponents and cross that finish line first.”
