Katy residents continue to grapple with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. For many, outdoor dining has become a comfortable option for getting out, with the added safety of fresh air. But people aren’t the only ones who need a change of scenery. Katy dogs have grown accustomed to constant togetherness with their humans, and many local restaurants welcome them and their loving owners to dine out.

Eating Out with Your Pup

Many Katy families are more comfortable with outdoor dining given the current pandemic. Fresh air and social distancing have proven to limit the spread of COVID-19. While many are itching to get out, it’s a great time to include the entire family and bring your dog. Remember that all dogs who eat out in Katy need to be friendly and on leashes.

Want to include Fido with your family dining plans? Several popular Katy dining spots welcome your furry best friend. Some even serve their furry customers, but such items are off-menu so be sure to ask.

Although not an official menu item, Starbucks serves the canine favorite, the Puppuccino. The drink is simply a cup of whipped cream that furry friends can be seen devouring in many YouTube videos.

Tips for Dining Out with Your Dog

  • Bring a Water Bowl - While some restaurants may provide a water bowl, play it safe considering Texas temps, and that you will be sitting outside.

  • Watch the Heat - Keep your pup in the shade or avoid dining during the lunch hours in the peak heat.

  • Walk Your Pup Before Dinner - Try to avoid accidents at the table. If your dog has an accident, remember it's your responsibility to clean it up.

  • Keep on the Leash - All dogs outside of their home must be on a leash. Dining out is no exception.

  • Feed Your Dog Before - No one wants to watch others eat when they're hungry, so don't do this to your dog. Ask your server what they recommend for your dog, or pack a snack from home.

  • Know the Menu - Check out the menu before arriving to save time ordering, just in case your furry friend gets anxious and you need to wrap up your meal unexpectedly. Remember your "doggie bag.”

  • Bring a Blanket or Towel - Sitting on the ground can get uncomfortable so be prepared to help your dog enjoy himself.

  • No Dogs Under the Table - Dogs must be kept out of the way and leashed, but putting them under the table can be hazardous. They could easily be kicked so be mindful of where they sit and that they are kept safe.

  • Bring a Toy - Help your dog have a great night out by bringing a toy, but don't annoy fellow diners with a squeaky favorite.

Many restaurants are operating under different hours due to the pandemic. Please remember to check restaurant websites or call before going.
