Local artist hosts first art show partnered with the Brookwood Community. Many Katyites remember Wayne Kerr for his Christian music throughout the years.

This weekend (October 10-11, 2025 from 10 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) artist Wayne Kerr will host “A Walk Thru Psalm 23” Art Show Event at The Brookwood Community. He will debut over 20 original works of art.
“I pray that people are encouraged as they see these pieces, that’s the main thing,” says Wayne Kerr.

50 percent of all sales will benefit The Brookwood Community. Kerr has also created a 2026 calendar from the images that will for sale as well. The calendar will also be available online soon.
Visual art has always been part of Kerr’s life even though so many people know him for his music.
“I was that kid who kept asking his parents, ‘What should I draw now?’ I went on to get my degree in visual arts, but then put it down for 25 years while pursuing music ministry and song-writing,” explains Kerr. “But all along the way, the art never left my heart.”
About 8-9 years ago Kerr jumped back into drawing and painting. In addition to religious inspired art, he also does western art events in Montana and Wyoming. He also has prints for sale at over 50 Buc-ees locations including the one in Katy!
For 16 years Kerr toured full time with the Wayne Kerr Band. You can find his songs on Spotify. He toured the U.S. performing and working at youth events and camps. So many Katy residents recall growing up to his music and ministry teachings.
Kerr is the “Artist in Residence” at his home church, Grace Fellowship in Katy. “Creating music and art are so very similar,” says Kerr.
“God is the great artist,” he says. “If we pause and look for a moment, we will get inspired by seeing the sunrise, the trees, the birds….inspiration is everywhere!”
Kerr has a few favorite pieces that those who attend can look forward to seeing and possibly purchase.
“’Even if I walk thru the valley’ is a 24x36 painting that depicts Christ walking the lone sheep thru the forest at night. The sheep most likely can’t see too far ahead, but isn’t it great to remember that He gives us enough light for the next step, and that we are not alone,” says Kerr.
In addition to working with The Brookwood Community, Kerr has done numerous speed painting events benefitting nonprofits such as Elijah Rising, BigCancer Care, Lakewood Camp, and many more,
Kerr has been married to his wife, Kelley for almost 24 year and they have two girls ages 13 and 11. “They have my heart,” he says.
The Kerr family has lived in Katy since 2003 though his music often brought him here for many years before that. He loves Humble Grounds and Living Spaces.
Kerr has witnessed Katy’s growth and change over the years but says that his favorite aspect is still the people. “There is a real sense of love of family here,” he says.
This weekend’s art show is free and open to everyone.
“It’s encouraging and might be just what your soul needs,” says Kerr. “I know too often I can get spun up by following the latest news. What helps me orient my heart is remembering the bigger picture, the bigger story. There is a Good Shepherd and He loves you like crazy.”
