The Taylor High School Mustang Cheerleaders have claimed the school’s first UIL 6A Division I Spirit Championship. The historic moment is made sweeter with Katy ISD schools taking third, sixth, and seventh place solidified the Districts excitement of spirit programs.

The Spirit State Championships were held this weekend in Fort Worth and Taylor High School secured their historic win over 72 schools with a cumulative score of 92.9.
“It has been amazing to watch the transformation of this team,” says cheerleader mom Amanada Fasullo. “Just two years ago they were hoping to just maybe make finals, and now State Champs.”
They edged out Katy ISD’s Jordan Warriors, Cinco Ranch Cougars, Seven Lakes Spartans. All Katy groups competed to level to cement their teams among the state’s elite programs.
“This championship is a testament to the dedication, resilience and passion of our students and coaches,” says Katy ISD Assistant Director of Fine Arts LaKeisha McGowen. “Taylor’s first state championship, along with our District’s strong overall showing reflects the culture of excellence we strive to cultivate across all Katy ISD fine arts.”
Katy ISD UIL 6A Division I Spirit Championship Results
1st Place: Taylor Mustangs
3rd Place: Jordan Warriors
6th Place: Cinco Ranch Cougars
7th Place: Seven Lakes Spartans
“Every single one of these girls has put their soul into this routine,” says Fasullo. “It's been blood, sweat, and tears literally every day. Their dedication and workout routine is insane.”
Katy ISD teams also earned top honors during the qualifying rounds, bringing home Best in Category awards:
Band Chant: Cinco Ranch Cougars
Crowd Leading: Jordan Warriors
“What's really made the difference isn't what we see in those three minutes on the mat,” says Fasullo. “The girls genially care for each other, they pray together, hold bible studies, encourage each other. It's not three teams with four different grades, they are friends. And that comes from the girls but also from the way our coaches care and treat the girls.”
“As a mom that has witnessed this, hearing their name called at awards was kinda indescribable,” continues Fasullo. “There was a split second when you think "well this isn't our year: and the next you are screaming in joy and just trying to find your daughter's face to watch her experience.”
The results highlight Katy ISD’s continued excellence in competitive cheer, where student-athletes combine athletic skill, performance quality and school spirit at the highest level.
Congratulations to the Taylor Mustangs and all the District cheer teams who competed this year.
