While the second phase of the Dryer renovation project continues to see delays, the development announced that The Katy Train, a ride on model, will soon be available to the public.

The Dryer in downtown Katy is known as the historic backdrop and landmark of the city. In 2021 a Katy resident and developer bought it with big plans to turn it into an entertainment district for the community to enjoy as they sat amongst history. Now the project is experiencing delays due to denied approvals. While delays continue some exciting things are coming soon.

The Katy Train is officially getting ready to roll and will be operating around the entire property,” says Hadi (Andrew) Nurcahya, the developer of The Dryer. “Our crew has been working hard every single day behind the scenes to bring this to life and it’s finally here.

The train, which Katy residents can ride on around the property, will be operating during the Farmer’s Market that is every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Dryer (5339 3rd Street in Downtown Katy.)

The soft opening for The Katy Train will be on March 14, 2026, and there will be a ribbon cutting event on March 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with train rides starting to run just fifteen minutes later.

The Farmer’s Market continues to grow and Nurcahya hopes to do more events of this nature in the future to bring the community together but continues to be stuck on approvals such as adding convenient bathrooms for those who come to events.

Train tickets will be for sale in person at The Dryer for $3. Each ticket gets riders three laps around the property. The Katy Train pays respect to the City’s long history with trains.

Last month the City of Katy Council approved a Historic Preservation Commission (HPV) Advisory Group. To Nurcahya’s knowledge, seven people have expressed interest in the committee.

“We hope the HPV will be formed before the end of April,” says Nurcahya. “Things are finally moving. The Historic Preservation Advisory Group will work to create the ordinances to form the HPC.”

Follow The Dryer on Facebook for information as this exciting space continues to be developed for the enjoyment of Katy families.

“I believe the JV Cardiff Rice Dryer being such a significant symbol for the City of Katy,” says Nurcahya. “Building a community gathering place while promoting Katy's history and tourism are our main goals.”
