Two Katy toddlers drowned in their backyard pool yesterday when family members were sleeping. The tragedy happened in the Lakes of Bridgewater community.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call just after 11:30 a.m. to a home on Creek Edge Court in Katy. A woman, later identified as the grandmother, called 911 reporting that the girls had drowned according to the sheriff’s office.

EMS personnel arrived before deputies and immediately began performing life saving measures. The sisters, ages 2 and 3, were transported via LifeFlight to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead.
According to authorities, the sister lived at the home with their mother and grandparents. The grandmother had left to go to the grocery store yesterday morning. When she arrived home, she found the girls in the pool and her husband and daughter asleep.
The grandmother tried to pool the girls out as the other family members rushed to help. Multiple 911 calls were reported coming in from screams from the same incident.
Investigators believe that the girls snuck out through a patio door that led them to the pool.
“It is not required to have a lock on backdoors or a fence around a pool, but always recommended,” says a representative with Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The department is conducting a follow-up investigation on the incident.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and everyone involved in this tragic case.
