Beck Junior High Student Loves to Bake

Baking is nothing new to 12-year-old Miabella Ramirez. The Beck Junior High student has loved to bake since she was little.

“It’s fun and relaxing for me,” says Miabella.

The sixth grader will compete on the season premiere of the ninth season of the Food Network’s “Kids Baking Championship.” The show is set to air December 28 at 8 p.m.

“Watching the kids on “Kids Baking Championship” inspired me because the kids looked super cool and they always baked really cool things,” says Miabella.

Last January, the young baker’s mom, Christina Ramirez, sent in an application for Miabella to be considered for the Food Network show. A few months later, the network reached out for a Skype interview.

“I had to submit lots of photos of my baking and I did a few more interviews,” explains Miabella. “Eventually, I got picked to do a boot camp via Skype.”

Miabella showed off her baking skills live during the virtual bootcamp.

“After that, they made their final cut and I was picked for the top twelve kids,” says Miabella.

“My favorite part was being able to make new friends from around the U.S.,” says Miabella of her experience on the show. “It was awesome to find kids that had the same passion for baking as me.”

Miabella especially loves to bake French desserts like macarons, eclairs, and meringues. When she grows up, she wants to be a pastry chef and own her own bakery.

She is on her way to that dream. Miabella has a small home bakery business that she runs with her parents’ help.

“I love to bake desserts and make people happy,” she says.

Like everyone, COVID-19 has kept the Ramirez family mostly home, but they love Katy. Miabella’s favorite restaurant is Marini’s Empanada and she loves to rock climb at Momentum.
