A Harris County resident is filing a lawsuit asking for $1 million dollars from Katy grocery store, Aldi after she allegedly fell.
Amaka Mourning filed a complaint on October 25 in the Harris County District Court against the Katy Aldi and Aldi Inc. alleging negligence. She claims that on October 27, 2016 while shopping at the Katy store she allegedly slipped on a foreign substance. She claims that the fall, which she feels was due to negligence, resulted in severe and serious injuries to her back and body. Her claimed injuries resulted in pain, discomfort, loss of earning capacity and medical expenses.
Mourning holds the Katy Aldi store and Aldi Inc. responsible because she believes they failed to properly train and supervise their employees in how to handle a known hazard.
Amaka Mourning has experienced run-ins with the law. She has been arrested for resisting arrest and assault on a family member in 2008 and 2010. However, this is the first time that she's filed a lawsuit.
The plaintiff, Amaka Mourning requests a trial by jury and is representing herself. She seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million and such other relief that she feels she is entitled to due to the nature of the alleged accident.
We reached out to both the Katy Aldi store and Amaka Mourning. Neither party would provide comment on the current lawsuit.
