Constable Ted Heap’s Major Offenders Unit, in a team effort with the Katy Police Department and the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office, seized five illegal “eight-liner” gambling machines and more than $100,000 in illegal gambling proceeds from a Katy convenience store.

The Katy Star convenience store is located at 5710 Highway Boulevard across from the McDonald's in Katy proper, less than one mile from Katy High School.

Raid on Wednesday Night

Officers armed with a search warrant carried out the raid on Wednesday night at Katy Star in the 5700 block of Highway Boulevard. The illegal gambling devices were located hidden behind beverage coolers in a back corner of the convenience store and cash was seized.

According to Constable Ted Heap's Office, "The store and their customers can be targets for other types of crime due to large amounts of cash on hand and patrons who are frequently elderly. In addition, operators of these establishments are often reluctant to report crimes to the proper authorities due to the illegal nature of their businesses."
