Katy experienced some intense weather last week that resulted in some experiencing hail damage. Many have been inundated with calls and visits by roofers, but authorities caution residents to do their research.

Do Your Research

Authorities warn Katy residents to do their research before accepting help from roofers after last week’s hailstorms.

“There will be those seeking to prey on you,” says Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Constable Chad Norvell. “If you’re planning to have your roof evaluated, use an established, credible company.”

Constable Norvell stresses the importance of doing research before making any decisions on if you need help and who you chose to work with.

“If a salesman asks you to sign a document to ‘take a look,’ understand that is binding contract to use their company,” says Constable Norvell.

Are They HARCA Members?

A good way to see if a company is credible is to see if they are a member of the Houston Area Roofing Contractors Association (HARCA.) This organization vets their members and verifies that they are reputable.

Ask Your Neighbors

While social media comes with its share of problems, this is an area that it’s useful for. Most Katy neighborhoods have private Facebook groups. Ask your neighbors who they are using. Seek recommendations and listen to neighbors warning against companies.

As the weather starts to warm up, spring storms will come that can produce damage. Do you research, talk to others, and avoid being taken advantage of.
