A crash involving a wrong-way driver on the Grand Parkway in Katy resulted in the death of three family members and the fourth remains in the hospital. A mother, father, and sister are dead, and the community is rallying to support the surviving son.

According to Fort Bend County investigators, the crash happened around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, on the Grand Parkway near FM 1464. The initial report indicates that the family was traveling north returning home from a holiday party when a wrong-way driver struck their vehicle.

Authorities recently released the names of those impacted. Lizbeth Rodriguez Contreras, 27, and her daughter Camila Pena, 5 were pronounced dead at the scene.

Diego Pena Jr., 26, and his son Dieguito Pena, 3, were air lifted to a nearby hospital. Diego Pena later succumbed to his injures while Dieguito remains in the hospital with a long road to recovery ahead.

Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office states that the wrong-way driver, a 28-year-old female was also injured and airlifted to the hospital, though they have not disclosed her condition. Authorities do believe that alcohol was involved and possible charges are pending the completion of the investigation.

Family members of the family have set up a Go Fund Me account to help with expenses moving forward for Dieguito, the sole surviving child of the family killed in the tragic incident.

Chrisitan Rodgriguez who set up the account says that Lizbeth and Diego’s world revolved around their children. Diego worked overtime to provide for his young family.

Lizbeth was a 4th grade teacher at Metcalf Elementary in Cy-Fair School District, where her daughter was also a preschool student.

“In an instant, Dieguito lost the people who loved him, protected him, and were his entire world,” states Rodriguez.

As of the publishing of this story over $35,000 have been raised out of the goal of $65,000. Funeral services are scheduled for Christmas Eve.

To contribute to help Dieguito Pena visit the Go Fund Me account.

FBCSO says that this case is still under investigation.
