An apartment complex near Katy Mills Mall was the scene for a SWAT standoff yesterday when a man barricaded himself in his unit for hours. Police are still investigation the scene that led to the deaths of two people believed to have been the result of a murder-suicide.

A 23-year-old black male called 911 around 1:52 p.m. yesterday. Authorities described him as being frantic saying he accidently shot his girlfriend. Deputies from Harris County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene to The Centurayat Katy apartments (1000 block of Katy Gap Road.) When the man refused to respond to their commands, he barricaded himself in his unit.
At that point SWAT was called in to assist.
“After several hour of our crisis negotiating team trying to talk to the male trying to get him to surrender, he refused all commands,” says Patrol Bureau Major Earl Dean. “At one point we deployed gas into the apartment building and the male retreated onto the balcony where he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
When deputies entered the unit, they confirmed that his 20-year-old girlfriend was deceased from a gunshot wound.
Authorities say that this incident is still under investigation.
