Katy Area Baseball Coach Shot by Recreational Gunfire

This morning, a baseball coach affiliated with TheRac Baseball in Katy was shot in the shoulder during a game. Authorizes state that the victim was flown to the hospital for treatment.

A baseball coach with TheRac Baseball in Katy was flown to the hospital this morning after getting shot in the shoulder during a game. According to officials the gunfire was considered recreational.


UPDATE: The baseball coach was released from the hospital Sunday evening.

UPDATE: Waller County Sheriff’s Office reports that the victim is in stable condition. Origionally it was reported that the shooter(s) were in custody, but a spokeperson for the Waller County Sheriff's Office confirmed that wasn't the case but they have interviewed people of interest.

 

TheRac said it is pausing any future practices or games at its facility "until law enforcement and our internal investigation has been completed to ensure the safety of all that visit the facility."

 

They are also asking for anyone with video of today’s incident to submit it to their portal.

According to officials the gunfire came from a nearby property. Recreational gunfire is any non-competitive and non-hunting use of firearms. This incident is believed to have occurred on private property and not associated with any shooting range.

 

People quickly commented on social media praising TheRac’s handling of the situation. Their onsite medical personnel treated the coach until paramedics arrived.

The baseball coach has not been identified at this time, but is 27-years-old.

 

"Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family as he receives treatment for his injuries," TheRac said in a statement.
