Cinco Ranch Library Opens Costume Swap Donations
Cinco Ranch Branch Library will help Katy area parents reduce waste while staying creative this Halloween season. A costume swap will allow families to “re-spook, re-wear, and re-scare” while not spending money on a costume children may only wear once.
Starting today through October 13, families can drop off costume donations to the Cinco Ranch Branch Library (2620 Commercial Center Blvd.) from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Take outgrown costumes from newborn sizes to adult to the first floor Information Desk.
For every donating costume families will receive a voucher to return for the Costume Swap.
The Costume Swap will take place October 15, 2025. Anyone with a voucher will have early access to costumes starting at 2:00 p.m. Those without vouchers can pick from the selection of costumes during the general-access period, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
“Many costumes are made from polyester and plastics, which are not recyclable, so each year, thousands of them end up in the trash," says Janna Raven, Fort Bend County Libraries Regional Manager at the Cinco Ranch Branch Library. "By participating in a costume swap, we’re helping to keep costumes out of landfills!"
This event is free and open to the public, even for Katy families who don't live in Fort Bend County.
The library asks that donated costumes are freshly laundered, free of any tears or damage and bagged with all accessories.
"Even if not everyone finds a costume they like this year, their donation helps someone else find a great costume," says Raven. "The response from our first costume swap last year was tremendous, so we’re looking forward to an even bigger event this year with lots of costumes of all sizes to choose from!”
Cinco Ranch Branch Library provides free events for children, teens, and adults. For more information on their first Costume Swap or any other events, visit their website or call 281-395-1311. They are also on Facebook.
