Society Prosper is a local nonprofit with a mission to stop the cycle of child abuse by providing resources to help children heal from abuse and neglect. On September 27, 2025 they will host their annual fundraising event, Casino Royal: A Night of Purpose. The event will be held at Venue 116 in Brookshire from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
“At Society Prosper, we believe the children of today are the foundation of stronger families tomorrow,” says Megan Langham, Society Prosper President. “Through our programs, we’re not just providing hours of support; we’re helping children heal, giving families hope, and building a healthier, brighter future for everyone.”
Funds raised from the event will help the organization provide financial assistance for therapy to children who have suffered abuse or neglect. According to Society Prosper, it takes around 10-15 therapy sessions for a child to overcome an experience. Therapy helps children process and lowers their risk of developing learning, emotional, and social issues later in life.
Through the organization’s scholarship program, 54 local families have been helped in their healing journey. Langham stresses that early intervention is crucial and that the therapists they partner with specialize in child trauma by using play therapy or trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy.
“Each hour of therapy is an investment in breaking the cycle of abuse, and building a better future for our community,” says Langham, who adds that children who get thearapy experience 80-85% success rate at lessening PTSD symptoms.
This is the fourth year for the Casino Royale event, and they have set a goal to raise $40,000.
Casino Royale will include dinner, a presentation on their mission, casino games, an open bar, auction, and an LED Robot joining guests on the dance floor.
Other initiatives that Society Prosper has is their partnership with Texas Children’s Foster Care Clinic. They provide snacks for children that come in for therapy appointments hungry so that they can focus on healing.
“We recently formed our Ambassador Program,” says Tammy Stringer, Vice President of Fundraising. “We call them our representatives of hope. They carry our mission into their world - their workplace, their neighborhood, their church, their circle of friends.”
This allows the organization to expand their reach and connect with people. Anyone interested in becoming an ambassador can contact Society Prosper for information. The ambassador program also offers quarterly lunches on various topics. The next one is October 30, 2025 and will cover counseling and mental health. While it will be targeted to counselors, anyone is welcome.
According to Society Prosper, 1 in 7 U.S. children have experienced abuse or neglect.
