Dad to 4 Girls

Keith Garvin is the father to four daughters; Kalee (28,) Rileigh (25,) Kendyll (23,) and Raegan (18.) He’s been married to his wife, Lisa for 26 years this month.

Evening News Anchor

The Garvin family has lived in Katy for 10 years and love calling this community home and he’s a face that many locals know well. Garvin is one of the evening anchors for KPRC Channel 2 News.

Garvin is an award-winning journalist. Throughout his career he’s flown with the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels, flown on Air Force One about a dozen times, and has interviewed people like Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Rev. Billy Graham, and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. However, he considers his family to be his biggest success.

“I absolutely love being a father,” says Keith Garvin. “After ‘husband’ the best title in the world is ‘dad.’”

Active in the Katy Community

Garvin and his family are active in the community, especially at the Second Baptist Church 1463 Campus, where his wife is the children’s director. The entire family is very involved in numerous church activities. He believes that when fathers lead by example it strengthens the entire community.

The three youngest Garvin girls graduated from Seven Lakes High School and the family spent countless nights at the Katy ISD stadiums. Rileigh danced with the Sapphires, Kendyll was in band, and Raegan was a cheerleader who was on the 2022 UIL State Championship team. She is also an all-star competitive cheerleader. Garvin loves being a girl dad.

“I love having four intelligent, fierce, and beautiful daughters who love me unconditionally, rely on me, and even at their ages still respect my opinion,” says Garvin.

Faith is always forefront in the Garvin family. In fact, one of Garvin’s greatest life moments was when he got to baptize his oldest daughter.

But as all Katy parents know, raising children isn’t easy.

“My biggest struggle was learning how to handle my daughters and their developing independence when they were younger,” says Garvin. “I believe I got better with each daughter.”

All Garvin girls are out of the house now. Three still live in Katy and the other is in Houston.

“As empty nesters we get to have dinner more often as a couple and have big travel plans,” says Garvin.

Garvin wishes for new dads to know that even when their children are rebellious, they love you and desire structure.

'Enjoy Every Moment'

“Enjoy every moment and don't take any of them for granted, even the tough moments,” says Garvin. “Stay in there and get through them because the time you have with your children goes by faster than you can imagine. Far faster!”

Garvin loves spending time at Crossfit Katy, Pearl & Vine, and the LaCenterra area. The family loves going to movies, traveling, and enjoying outdoor activities.

A fun fact is that Garvin actually got to deliver his second daughter, Rileigh. “Yes, the doctor actually let me deliver her,” he says.

Numerous father figures have inspired Garvin in his parenting, including coaches, instructors, and mentors.

“I hope that they pursue their individual relationships with Christ fervently and achieve the goals set before their path,” says Garvin. “They've been taught by their mother and I that they have the talent, ability, and intelligence to become just about anything they set their minds to.”
