Katy Dedicates North Transportation Center as District Keeps Growing

Katy ISD officials and local elected officials dedicated the new North Transportation Center in the legacy of William “Bill” Kyser. The new center will support the growing Northwestern quadrant as it continues to expand.
Yesterday, Katy ISD and local elected officials gathered to dedicate the William “Bill” Kyser North Transportation Center after a man whose multidecade service transformed student transportation and left a lasting legacy on the District.
"Bill Kyser's leadership helped shape our Transportation Department, and his commitment to safety, innovation and service continues to influence our District today," says Katy ISD Superintendent Ken Gregorski. "It is especially fitting that this facility bears his name."
Named by the Katy ISD Board of Trustees, the facility recognizes Kyser, who served as the District's director of transportation for 22 years. During his tenure, Kyser championed innovations that enhanced student safety and employee support, including introducing air-conditioned buses, establishing an on-site childcare program for transportation employees and creating the "Katie the Bus" safety program that taught generations of students about bus safety.
"Mr. Kyser devoted more than 20 years of service to Katy ISD's students, families and employees as director of transportation," says Katy ISD Board of Trustee President Lance Redmon. "His influence continues to be felt throughout the Transportation Department."
Special guests included Katy ISD Board Vice President Dawn Champagne, Board Secretary James Cross, and trustee Nathan Shipley; Paula Gibson, district director for the Office of Senator Lois Kolkhorst; State Representative Mike Schofield, District 132; and Maida Guillen, economic development manager and Olivia Lee, government affairs coordinator representing Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones, Precinct 4.
Also attending were Mary Kyser, Bill Kyser's wife, along with their children, Kevin Kyser and Kristen Azaria, members of the Kyser family, Katy ISD namesakes and namesake families, representatives from VLK Architects and Gamma Construction Company, District Facilities, Planning and Construction leaders and Katy ISD Transportation employees who continue Kyser's commitment to safely serving students each day.
"It is a great honor to have the transportation center named after my dad," says Kevin Kyser, Bill Kyser’s son. "He spent more than two decades trying to make Katy ISD a better place through safer and more efficient transportation."
The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of the William "Bill" Kyser North Transportation Center portrait, permanently recognizing a leader whose vision continues to guide the District's Transportation Department and its mission of safely transporting students every day.
Katy ISD continues to grow especially in the Northwest quadrant. This transportation center will help support bus services to those northern schools.
