It’s the last weekend of summer for Katy students, but local events offer great fun while families get ready for the academic year.
Get ready for back to school with fun festivals geared at setting kids up right for the new academic year. Find free services, back-to-school haircuts, or enjoy one last family movie in a park before all the learning begins.
Movies In The Park
Friday, August 12, 2022

Historic Downtown Plaza- 910 Avenue C
Enjoy the last week of summer in Historic Downtown Katy. Families can enjoy true Katy fun with free entry to watch “Sandlot” and enjoy fun and games.
There will be games and prizes, a bounce house, food and drinks, and pictures with your favorite Katy school mascots.
The movie is set to start at 8:15 p.m. Participants are encouraged bring chairs and blankets. Outside food and drinks are allowed but no glass, alcohol, or pets.

Mayor’s Back-To-School Fest

George R. Brown Convention Center
All greater-Houston area students can get ready for the academic year at the City of Houston’s Mayor’s Back-to-School Fest. It’s recommended to make an appointment time online in advance.
There will be free immunizations, dental screenings, vision screenings, haircut vouchers, school supplies, backpacks, and many more resources.
Back-To-School Haircut Event

Grayscale Barbershop

Barbers will be providing free back-to-school haircuts to all kids. Appointments are not required but recommended. Call 832-844-5073.
This event is hosted by The Village Life Prep and Grayscale Barbershop. They will be handing out free school supplies (while supplies last) and hosting giveaways like a free TV and more great prizes. Giveaways will start at 11:00 a.m.
There will also be a bounce house, live music, raffles and food vendors.
