The Katy area continues to grow and Katy ISD will continue to work to meet the needs of the area to best balance enrollment across campuses as well as to build new campuses. Katy ISD Trustees are currently reviewing proposed boundary modifications and will send potentially impacted families a survey.

Katy ISD Trustees are currently reviewing proposed attendance boundary modifications intended to support the opening of Elementary School #49 and to balance enrollment across campuses experiencing fluctuations in the District’s southeast quadrant.

“Thoughtful planning is essential to supporting the District’s continued success,” says Katy ISD Chief Operations Officer Ted Vierling. “These proposed adjustments help balance enrollment across campuses while ensuring students have access to the facilities, programs and resources needed for success.”

Presented during the June Regular Board Meeting last night, the ABM would affect select attendance zones at Wolfe Elementary, West Memorial Elementary, Mayde Creek Junior High and Cinco Ranch High School.

Trustees are also reviewing proposed attendance boundaries for the District's newest elementary campus, Elementary #49, scheduled to open in the District's northwest quadrant. The newest school will be located at 6435 and provide relief for Youngblood Elementary.

Families expected to be impacted will receive a survey this month from the District.

It is anticipated that the Board will continue to review the proposal and feedback from the survey over the next few months. If approved by the Board of Trustees, the changes would take effect in August 2027 for the 2027-2028 school year.

Among the proposals under consideration:

  • Elementary #49 would provide enrollment relief for Youngblood Elementary. Proposed Land Use Zones (LUZ) transitioning to Elementary #49 include LUZ 1D (NW Katy/Jasek Farms), LUZ 1H (Winward), LUZ 3B (Katy Prairie Estates), LUZ 3D (North Sunterra VI and Summerwell at Sunterra) and LUZ 3F (North Sunterra VII and future developments).

  • Wolfe Elementary would shift LUZ 17 and LUZ 18 to Bear Creek Elementary to create a shorter commute for parents and guardians and balance enrollment between the two campuses.

  • West Memorial Elementary would transition a portion of LUZ 42A and all of LUZ 42C to Cimarron Elementary, providing enrollment relief while increasing the efficiency of how campus space is utilized at Cimarron.

  • Mayde Creek Junior High would reassign LUZ 29A to Cardiff Junior High to balance enrollment between the two campuses.

  • Cinco Ranch High School would transition LUZ 61E to Tompkins High School to better align enrollment across both campuses.

Additional information, including maps, Land Use Zone details and proposed attendance boundary modifications, is available on the Katy ISD website.

The proposed attendance boundary modifications are designed to maximize facility utilization while ensuring all students continue to have access to high-quality educational programs and resources.

The Katy area continues to grow and the District will continue to evaluate plans to ensure students are receiving the best education from a District that provides so much.
