All Katy ISD High School Perform Musicals This Year
Students and staff devote countless hours to preparing these large-scale productions. This year all 9 Katy ISD high schools have worked on a musical theatre production. Katy High School performed “Chicago” last semester.
Both Taylor High School and Tompkins High School are currently showing “Seussical.” The colorful set and fun musical numbers are perfect for younger audience members.
"I'm really excited about performing in Seussical because the set and costume are so creative. The music is really fun to sing, and the choreography is amazing," says Taylor High School junior Natasha Hornung.
Popular characters from the literary works of Dr. Seuss come to life onstage as the theatre groups showcase their musical rendition of “Seussical.” Each school finds a way to bring their uniqueness to the productions.
This month will be a first for both Jordan High School and Paetow High School.
Jordan High School to Perform First Musical
Jordan High School is the newest Katy ISD high school having opened in 2020. This year they will debut their first musical. Audiences can support their hard work and talent by watching “Spamalot,” showing January 27-29.
“Spamalot” is a musical comedy adapted from the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The songs and comedy are sure to thrill Katy audience members as the theatre group celebrates this huge milestone for Katy ISD’s newest high school.
Paetow High School Brings Fine Arts Together
Paetow High School welcomed students in 2017. This year they celebrate their first full fine arts theatrical production of “Anastasia,” also showing January 27-29.
The Panthers are involving multiple fine arts students from their theatre company, the Strutter Dance Team and orchestra and band. Over 100 students are working to make the show possible.
Paetow High School also has some new equipment this year. They have a projector that uses 400 light cues to create scenes that will immerse the audience into Russia.
The popular musical is based off the 1997 animated film. It follows the legend of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia.
On January 29, 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 p.m. guests can enjoy breakfast with Anastasia and her friends in Paetow High School’s small café. Tickets for the special event are $7 and can purchased online.
Katy is fortunate to have so much talent right here. Tickets for Katy ISD high school musical productions can be purchased online.
Each performance is held at each high school’s performing arts center located on their campus. Some shows have already started while others debut early next month.
