A popular Katy poker room was raided on Thursday. The prominently placed establishment that often makes Katy residents curious was the scene of authorities with drawn guns as players were escorted from the building.

101 Poke Club in Katy, located at 20900 Katy Freeway, was shut down on Thursday when authorities arrived to remove players and their guns were out. No shots were fired during the raid but reports state that $118,000 was seized and four arrests were made over a possible illegal gambling operation.
The Houston Police Department announced the arrests and details of the assets seized on Saturday.
Less than 24 hours after the raid, 101 Poker reopened their doors for business.
So how can people “gamble” in Texas?
Texas has strict anti-gambling laws, but Texas Penal Code Chapter 47 leaves open the possibility of spreading poker games legally so long as rake isn't collected.
A rake is the reference to the commission fee charged by the card room, casino, or an online platform when hosting a poker game.
The poker rooms in Texas that attempt to operate within the law charge membership and seat fees as opposed to a rake.
It is believed that those arrested are suspected of collecting rake fees rather than following the law.
