For five years Katy ISD’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has offered this training required to select staff but open to the community including students 7th grade and older.

Where and When

The training will be held tonight from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex (6301 S. Stadium Lane.)

What to Expect

There will be several classes. Staff sessions include enhanced guidance tailored to the unique needs of Katy ISD campuses and are limited to District employees.

According to the District, Public Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) sessions, including this training, provide an overview of District safety protocols at a high level. These sessions support outreach to parents, students and community members while promoting awareness and preparedness.

The CRASE training prepares individuals to respond to an active shooter event. The course is built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy and provides practical guidance to increase the likelihood of survival.

The Katy ISD Office of Emergency Management leads the training. Miche Norris, assistant director of Emergency Management and School Safety, is the presenter.

According to a District representive, “Student and staff safety is a top priority for Katy ISD. Increasing situational awareness and response readiness across the District community strengthens overall campus preparedness. Training staff, students and frequent visitors helps ensure individuals can respond effectively in the event of an emergency.”

The training also provides valuable skills that apply beyond school settings, as individuals are more likely to encounter these situations in public or commercial environments.

Register in Advance

Registration is required in advance. District employees register through Eduphoria. Students and community members may RSVP by emailing moniqueapettinger@katyisd.org. This training event is free to all who attend.
