Today Katy ISD opens enrollment for their new Legacy Virtual High School reinforcing their commitment to unparalleled and flexible learning opportunities.

Enrollment is now open for Katy ISD’s new Legacy Virtual High School. This new flexible learning opportunity will initially serve grades 9th – 11th grades for both in-district and out-of-district students. Grade 12 will launch in the 2027–2028 school year. The program offers tuition-free, full-time enrollment for eligible Texas students and fee-based supplemental courses to support students’ graduation plans.
“Legacy Virtual High School builds on the exceptional academics of our brick-and-mortar schools, enabling us to expand the district’s proven success across the region and state,” says Katy ISD Superintendent Dr. Ken Gregorski. “Through a combination of innovation and student-centered learning, our virtual high school reflects the same high standards that define the Katy ISD experience and outcomes.”
The virtual campus represents the next evolution of Katy ISD’s investment in virtual learning. The program meets students where they are while preserving the rigor, accountability and instructional quality families expect from Katy ISD. In August, any eligible high school student in the Lone Star State can participate in the District’s respected and effective curricula.
Students will have access to core academic courses, original credit options, select CTE offerings and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, all taught by fully certified Katy ISD teachers trained in the delivery of virtual instruction. The program supports graduation endorsements in multidisciplinary studies; arts and humanities; business and industry; as well as STEM–computer science.
Coursework will be delivered through the district’s online learning management system, buttressed with safeguards for online learning and security, content monitoring and regular communication with parents and guardians.
Katy ISD zoned students may use district-issued devices or personal laptops, while out-of-district students may purchase a low-cost, high-powered device through the district, or use their own.
Passed during the 89th Texas Legislative Session, Senate Bill 569 (2025) clarified and expanded public schools’ authority to offer virtual and hybrid instruction.
“The school is designed to feel personal, structured and supportive,” says Legacy Virtual High School Principal Kelley Kirila. “Our goal is to combine flexibility with clear expectations, consistent instruction and strong relationships so students can thrive in an online environment.”
Families interested in Katy ISD’s Legacy Virtual High School can now apply online.
Summer and Fall enrollment is now open, and Spring enrollment opens September 1 for students and transfers.
