A man, with a history of threats towards the family, has been arrested and charged with the murder of a Katy couple. The suspect is the biological father of the couple’s adopted 7-year-old daughter.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the capital murder of Christopher Lopez, 52, and his wife, Trinette Lopez, 52. The married couple was shot and killed in their Katy home on the morning of January 12, 2026.

On that morning deputies responded to a call about a shooting. HCSO deputies arrived at 6:30 a.m. to the 3700 block of Bent Springs Lane in Katy’s Bridgewater Pointe. At their arrival both an adult man and female were found deceased by apparent gunshot wounds in different areas of the home.
The couple have two adult children along with an adopted 7-year-old daughter. All were reportedly asleep at the time of the shooting. According to reports, their grown son called 911 to report the shooting.
Suspect Norman Lee Johnson has a history with the family. He is the biological father of their adopted daughter.
While the case is still being investigated, officials believe that Johnson and Lopezes had an ongoing argument over custody of their daughter.
In October 2024 Johnson was charged with harassment after allegedly threatening to kill Christopher and Trinette Lopez. According to accounts he made the threat after being denied access to his daughter.

Other accounts indicate he had a history of violence even towards family.
On the day of the shooting authorities shared that there were no signs of a break-in. Christopher and Trinette were both pronounced dead at the scene and were found in different rooms downstairs.
This case is still under investigation as Johnson awaits court proceedings.
