Katy ISD will welcome 97,000 students back to class this Wednesday. This year the District will have more than 100 campuses and support facilities, with the addition of two new elementary schools built to provide relief to the fast-growing northwest quadrant.

When Katy ISD starts their 2025-26 academic year, they will open two new elementary schools; Boudny Elementary and Cross Elementary. Both schools were approved with the 2023 Bond Prop. A and are built to support 1,386 students.
Last week members of the media were invited to tour Cross Elementary that is named for namesakes James and Mitzi Cross. The project was around $58,356,952 and is the same build as other recent elementary schools such as Boudny, Youngblood and McElwain elementaries.
The campus is located in the still-growing Sunterra community 900 Sunterra Shores) and will help relieve crowding at Youngblood Elementary. The northwest quadrant continues to be the fastest growing sector of Katy ISD.

Principal Tamika Holdman says the school will focus on the “wrap around services” and of course, safety for all students.
“Success looks different for every student and it’s about finding what that looks like for everyone and I have the right staff to do that,” says Cross Elementary Principal Tamika Holdman.
She adds that they will create an environment where kids feel safe and that they can focus on preparing them for success at Cross Elementary but also on the junior high, high school, and life.
Cross Elementary is unique in the fact that they have a solar panel field, like what Haskett Junior High has. The field will help the District assess energy needs and conservation but also provide a valuable and unique educational tool for science teachers.
Last week, Katy ISD Dr. Ken Gregorski welcomed 14,000 educators and support staff back from summer break. Centered around the District’s theme this year, “United in Purpose,” he addressed everyone by highlighting continued academic success, ongoing investment in safety and innovation and the critical role employees play in supporting the students.
“Whether you're in the classroom, on a campus, driving a bus, preparing meals or supporting from a department — your role matters,” says Gregorski. “Katy ISD’s continued excellence is a direct reflection of your dedication.”
