Katy ISD’s Miller Career & Technology Center Gives Students Hands-On Experience While Helping the Community

Katy ISD’s Miller Career & Technology Center (MCTC) offers students real-world experiences I multiple career paths. Several programs offer discounted services to the community, where residents can benefit while supporting student growth and experience.

Local residents can benefit from discounted services and support students in their learning at Katy ISD’s MCTC.

 

“Miller Career & Technology Center continues to offer real-world experiences. Through our four enterprise businesses, each designed to serve both students and the community,” says Kelley Kirila.

Programs that the community can benefit from include The Dog Wash at Miller, The Salon at Miller, The Garage at Miller, and the Old Town Bistro.

 

“Community support is vital to the success of these programs,” says Kirila. “When individuals choose to bring their vehicles to The Garage, book appointments at The Salon, dine at Old Town Bistro, or schedule grooming through The Dog Wash, they’re not only receiving high-quality, affordable services—they’re directly investing in student learning.”

 

The Garage at Miller

Local residents can get a variety of automotive services done. Prices are for labor only. All parts and fluids must be provided by the resident.

 

Services Include:

Oil Change, MPI, and Tire Rotation- $15

Break Pad Replacement- Front or back- $40, Both- $80

Wheel Alignment- 2 wheels- $30, 4 wheels- $50

Free Diagnostic checks and multipoint inspections

The Salon at Miller

The Salon at Miller offers multiple nail, hair and skincare services.

 

Basic Manicure- No polish- $15, 1 color polish- $20

Skin Care- Eyebrow wax- $10, Lip Wax- $5

Hair Services:

Shampoo/Conditioner- $15

Blow Dry (no style)- $20

Haircut, no style- $25

Haircut, blow -dry, no style- $30

Haircut, blow-dry, w/thermal style- $35

The Dog Wash at Miller

The Dog Wash at Miller offers several packages great for your furry friend.

 

Spa:

Bath, brush, dry, ear cleaning, and nail trim- $25

Add Hygienic clipping for $15

 

Deluxe Spa:

Bath, brush, dry, ear cleaning, nail trim, anal gland expression, and teeth brushing- $30

Add Hygienic clipping for $15

The Old Town Bistro

The Old Town Bistro is operated by MCTC’s award-winning culinary students and staff. The real restaurant is open Wednesday and Thursdays from 11:30- 12:30 p.m. and specials are offered based on the season and student learning experience.

“Miller’s enterprise programs provide accessible, affordable, and high-quality services close to home—whether it’s maintaining a vehicle, enjoying a freshly prepared meal, treating yourself to a salon service, or caring for a pet,” says Kirila. “Beyond that, the programs help develop a skilled local workforce, ensuring that the next generation of culinary professionals, stylists, automotive technicians, and veterinary assistants are ready to contribute to the region’s economic growth.”

 

These are just the MCTC programs that offer community services. They offer 15 other career programs that prepare students for a wide range of professions such as health science, law enforcement, engineering, information technology, education, and more. All programs at MCTC give students the opportunity full immerse themselves in their chosen career paths.  

 

Kirila says that these programs give students access to to industry-standard equipment, mentorship, and real-world experiences that ensure they are college- and/or career-ready upon graduation.

 

“The students at Miller are among some of the most dedicated in the district. They balance rigorous academic coursework with industry-level training and extra-curricular activities,” says Kirila.

 

Many students earn industry credentials or professional licenses before they even graduate high school, which reflects the high standards set by our campus, their teachers, and their future industries.
