The Katy area continues to grow, and Katy ISD continues to work to meet the growing demand. The District opened two new elementary schools this academic year both in the rapidly expanding north quadrant of the area where a new transportation center has opened.

Katy ISD opened nominations for the naming of its new North Transportation Center. Nominations can be made online and the deadline is January 5, 2025.
The North Transportation Center joins three existing transportation centers to provide safe, reliable and cost-effective transportation to and from school for the District’s more than 95,000 students. The new center covers the growing northwest region of the district, servicing schools including Boudny Elementary, Cross Elementary, Youngblood Elementary, Nelson Junior High and Freeman High School.
Katy ISD puts great care and takes the public interest in naming schools and centers.
The latest new schools to open in Katy ISD were approved with the 2023 Bond Proposition and were built to take on more growth as the northwest area of the District continues to grow.
“We’ve got about 300+ new neighborhoods in various stages of development,” says realtor Kerri Schultz with Keller Williams Premier. “Communities like Sunterra and Elyson are adding tons of new homes with amazing amenities—think resort-style pools, parks, and walking trails. These master-planned communities are really shaping the future of Katy.”
Growth in Waller County
Another community planned for major growth is the Grange located at Morton Road and FM 2855 in Waller County. The Grange, a 1,130-acre development by Johnson Development that launched home sales last year. The community's first phase includes 301 homesites, with plans for 2,400 homes at completion. Current home prices start in the low $400,000s.
Katy ISD has already acquired 35 acres for a junior high school and 16 acres across the street for an elementary campus along Schilpf Road. The junior high, which will be larger than the district's typical 1,400-student capacity, is expected to break ground in late 2025 or early 2026 with a planned 2028 opening.
Katy ISD’s new transportation center is perfectly positioned to support the District in the area that needs support the most. As the community continues to grow, Katy ISD will continue to assess needs to best maintain its goals, mission, and purpose.
Nominations can be made online and the deadline is January 5, 2025.
