Seven Lakes High School students earned the State title in Parliamentary Procedure at the Texas Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference.

Seven Lakes High School students demonstrated elite communication, leadership and organizational skills on a statewide stage earning them first place in Parliamentary Procedure.

“Katy ISD continues to prepare students for real-world success by developing leadership, communication and critical thinking skills through programs like HOSA,” says Katy ISD Director of CTE Nicholas Gonzales. “This team’s state championship reflects their commitment to excellence and their ability to lead with confidence in high-pressure environments.”

The Parliamentary Procedure competition at the Texas Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference challenges students to lead structured, efficient meetings using Robert’s Rules of Order, a skill set critical in both professional leadership settings and the healthcare industry.

The teams first complete a comprehensive written exam covering motions, voting procedures and rules of debate before advancing to a live performance. Finalists conduct a timed, simulated meeting where they demonstrate leadership roles including chair, secretary and committee members.

The event mirrors the structured protocols found in healthcare professions, where precision, organization and teamwork are essential. Just as medical teams follow established procedures to ensure patient safety, students in Parliamentary Procedure must execute meetings with accuracy, clarity and professionalism.

The championship team – Shrey Ghosh, Ivanna Santiago, Anisha Polepally, Saisha Srivastava, Arya Patel, Saanvi Talapalikothuri, Lamha Arora and Shriya Desikan – outperformed top competitors from across Texas in one of HOSA’s most rigorous and dynamic events.

Seven Lakes’ championship highlights the success of Katy ISD’s Career and Technical Education programs, which provide students with opportunities to build leadership skills and prepare for future careers in healthcare and beyond.
